Taking A Bath With Myself

2021

This piece negotiates with the heightened state of solitude I’ve experienced while living alone during the pandemic. I filmed myself bathing and projected the recording into my bathtub the following day. It demonstrates my safest and most accessible form of physical, emotional, and creative intimacy and comfort: that with myself, a fact that’s heightened in a moment when the proximity of others’ bodies present a concrete threat. These scenes of my naked bodies intertwined and abstracted through distortions of light, skin and water read in different moments as erotic, tender, sensual, humorous, or melancholy, all of which hold true to my experiences of isolation.
