Anna Johnson is a performer, composer, and visual artist who creates embodied multisensory experiences. Based in drone and hypnotic repetition, her sound layers textural explorations of voice and electroacoustic instrumentation into a devotional music approaching avant pop, atmospheric choral, and psychedelic neomedieval folk. Her performances incorporate prismatic environmental projections of manipulated light and shadow, informed by the emergent, alchemical conversations that open between sound, image, space, and body in real time. Anna works site-responsively and improvisationally, in pursuit of newly vulnerable emotional, spiritual, and social realities. She is drawn to the meeting points between personal and mythical, contemporary and ancient.

Anna is currently based in Chicago, IL. She was raised with a practice of Celtic and Anglo folk and sacred early Christian music, and was trained in Western classical as well as Eastern European polyphonic choral traditions. Anna holds an MFA from the Performance department of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has toured solo in the United Kingdom, France and North America, and presented work in venues, theatres, galleries and festivals in the United States for over ten years, in addition to collaborations across music, theatre, puppetry, dance and film. Unknowing, Anna’s debut EP under her own name, was released on cassette in Spring 2025 by UK label Industrial Coast.
