Anna Johnson creates embodied experiences at the boundaries of sound, performance, moving image and installation. Across disciplines, her work navigates intimacy and interrelation on physical, emotional and spiritual registers. She seeks to bring her audiences into states of sensory attention that invite full presence, and is invested in ritualistic live performance as a channel for vulnerability, trance and cathartic release.

Her music explores the textures of voice, synthesizer, acoustic instruments and electronic processing. She engages improvisation and layered repetition in pursuit of aural landscapes with an elastic sense of time. Her live visual work incorporates cameras, projection installation, and manipulation of light, body and objects to render atmospheric moving images that play with scale and perspective. Within her live and recorded work, these elements of image and sound unite in an emergent process to reveal new dimensions of expression and abstracted narrative.

Anna holds an MFA from the Performance department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently based in Chicago, IL.
