Anna Johnson is a performer, composer and visual artist who creates multisensory experiences. Her hypnotic, devotional sonic landscapes are drawn from explorations of voice and electroacoustic instrumentation. She layers medieval-influenced vocals with synthesizer atmospheres and heavy drone textures, in a sound approaching experimental pop, ambient choral, and psychedelic folk. Her work relies on improvisation, with a meandering, fluid sense of embodied time. Integrating backgrounds in classical, traditional and religious musics with fine arts and theatre, Anna's performances regularly feature her cinematic projection installations, which incorporate live cameras and manipulations of light and shadow to render surreal and fantastical environments. In creating for both stage and screen, she is guided by the emergent, alchemical conversations that open between sound and image when they are brought together. Her practice centers body and intuition as primary sites of knowledge, in pursuit of newly intimate and vulnerable emotional, spiritual, and social realities.

Anna holds an MFA from the Performance department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is based in Chicago, IL. She has performed and exhibited solo and collaborative work in music venues, theatres, galleries, and film festivals throughout the Midwestern United States for over ten years. Following a 2024 solo tour in the United Kingdom and France, she is currently touring in North America. Her debut EP Unknowing was released on cassette in Spring 2025 by UK-based label and distributor Industrial Coast.
